BACKGROUND

The Central Illinois Alumni Extension Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (CI-NSBE) is a 501(c)(3) organization here in the Central Illinois region.  We work to provide programs that support the growth of minority engineers professionally as well as provide opportunities for them to give back to their communities.

During National Engineers Week, on Saturday, February 25, 2012, CI-NSBE will be hosting its 3rd Annual “Young Minds for Engineering” Luncheon.  This luncheon will host between 70 to 80 students and volunteers.  It will target minority high school students and provide them with opportunities to interact with industry representatives.  The hope is that this luncheon will serve as the catalyst for the students’ increased interests in math and science studies.

We are looking for students who would like to learn more about engineering and explore their education and career opportunities for the future.   Lunch is 100% FREE, we only ask that students come ready for some great dialogue.

In addition to students, we are looking for industry representative to volunteer their lunch time to engage these students in the critical dialogue that fosters an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education opportunities.  Tell students about what you learned on your journey to becoming an engineer. Provide tips about how to prepare one's self for a career in engineering.  Also, talk the students about the different paths in which you can take an engineering career.  If possible bring pictures or materials from your job so that you can show the students what you do in your everyday job.
